Yep. All MSM and talk radio people have said is that it's a good deal because it means the Royals are "going for it" and they're so excited to see competitive baseball at the major league level. What they don't realize is that if you refuse to be the least bit critical about the trade now, then you don't have the right to be upset when the Royals are 51-60 and 8 games out on August 1 (and I'm probably being generous in that projection).
Greinke just signed a 6 year $147 million deal with the Dodgers. 2nd largest deal ever for a pitcher and largest ever for a RHP. That's just ridiculous money.
The more I think about it, the more I'm coming around to not entirely hating the trade. We still overpaid by a ton, but it's nice to think that we actually have a legitimate big league pitcher.
That said, I'm sure he will blow out his arm by July 1.
signed Willy Taveras to a minor league deal.
I'm absolutely shocked that DM likes him.
Question for those that like the trade:
Do you see the Royals winning the division next year? I don't. I still think the Tigers are a better team. And lord knows the wildcard isn't coming out of the AL Central.
I still just don't get why we couldn't sign Anibel Sanchez for similar money and kept Myers to replace Frenchy.
Shields was worth 4.3 WAR last year, Sanchez was 3.8
Frenchy was something like -6 or -7 WAR last year.
I know what they did last year doesn't mean they will do it again this year, but adding Sanchez and letting Myers play right, we basically win at least 6 games more than we do with Shields and no Myers.
So Hoch got a raise..
