    KU vs. Baylor discussion

I'd like to initiate some discussion on the upcoming game vs. Baylor.

From my viewpoint it seems like the key to the game is stopping Griffin and establishing a running game early on offensively. I believe, reading between the lines, that we will see some two-back sets against Baylor with Sims and Beshears in the backfield in a shotgun split-back set. This adds both protection packages for the QB, and also keeps the D honest on the run as DJ can get open in the flat with the respect given to Sims out of that set. It also sets up a nice zone-read option opportunity as well. I think this is a package we have been saving until Big 12 play. Just a hunch.

Defensively I'm not sure what our plan is. I think we might employ a spy tactic on Griffin, obviously. Perhaps this is the opportunity to employ TO at LB. Pretty easy assignment for him. Follow Griffin, and fuck him up.

I don't know much about Baylor's defense, honestly. I need to watch some film and evaluate it. Based on previous games they appear to be pretty salty sans TCU.

Any other input is greatly appreciated by this poster. Let's get some talk going.

I'm hoping this is a game we can pull out....we certainly are capable of it.

Griffin doesn't scare me as much after the GTech game. I'd be much more scared of a great passing QB

    Re: KU vs. Baylor discussion

Like any other game we will have for the rest of the season, it will come down to three things:

    1. Keep our defense off the field. We can't afford too many snaps, because we will wear down in the second half.

    2. Special teams needs to play mistake free and win the field position game.

    3. Treat each possession as if it counts for 4 pts. If we limit the number of possession by slowing the game down or limiting turnovers, we'll have a decent shot at winning. We aren't built to run and gun like many Big 12 offenses.

I know Griffen is a freak athlete, but how good is his passing? If he's just a Nesbitt clone we should be able to shut him down. I don't think we've been tested through the air much. Hopefully our running game can continue to improve and eat up clocks.

Here is the thing, it doesn't matter how good his passing is. If they call passing plays, our secondary will fall apart, and we will make him look like Joe Montana.

If Kansas can establish a power running game, I see good things. :mexican

Here is the thing. The OL better show up or our running game drops to nill. The Defensive secondary better show up or we get blown out. There are still so many questions about this team, that I need to see some consistancy before I totaly buy in.
