New Big 10 divisions

The alignments for the new divisions, which have yet to be named, are as follows:

– Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin in one division.

– Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern in the other.

Each school will play its five division mates every year. Each school also will face three teams from the other division, including one cross-division school that it will be guaranteed to face annually, according to the Big Ten.

The guaranteed cross-division match-ups, some of which keep intact longstanding rivalries, are Ohio State-Michigan, Illinois-Northwestern, Wisconsin-Minnesota, Indiana-Michigan State, Penn State-Nebraska and Purdue-Iowa.

Looks like they don't really have geographic boundaries. I figured Nub would be in a Western Division with Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois.

I was secretly hoping Nub would be stuck with OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, and Penn State, relegating them to 3-5 every year and major obscurity. Still may happen though.

It's fairly obvious that these Divisions allow for an eastern expansion. Add two schools to the 'East', move Wisconsin to the 'West'. It stays balanced and the geography improves.

Wisconsin is really the only school that got hosed in this divisional split: no Iowa game, no NW game and no Nebraska game. I wouldn't be surprised if Delany told them to just be patient.

It looks like from the Frank the Tank map, that Nub will be in the Vag division, with the East division being the Dick division. Hopefully they spend many years getting screwed silly.

What I like is that any western expansion schools would be in Nebraska's division. Purely for spiteful reasons, I'd loooooove for Texas to join their division 3-5 years from now.

By being from the smallest state in conference & the school with the worst academics from the conference, I would not be surprised if they soon become the Missouri of the Big 10. But all the nub fans I've talked too are pleased with the big pile of cash they will be sitting on.

QFT. It's a great deal for Nubb. This just goes to show that athletics in general and football in particular rule the conference decisions. And maybe Nebraska can ramp up their academics to the 'Big Ten' level.

We'll see how they feel when the honeymoon is over. :popcorn
