You are managing a business not a personal website. Traffic matters and you're booting people from the site for things that I have seen here for years.
You've kicked a lot of the drivers of content in the aperoom and it's just not what it was just a few months ago.
I realize that it's inappropriate to question any of the decisions made by the administration or the moderators but you really need to give this a little thought.
Just my thoughts.

The alternative, of course, would be to let you post what you will, resulting in a loss of all control of the board. Not going to happen. Someone has to draw a line what's offensive, and one of the mods (not me) found the placenta pic over the line.
The JackLord pic was wrong. He knew it when he posted it.
All of you that threw a fit (either about JackLord or about the placenta pic) knew exactly what would happen when you did. You're getting exactly what you wanted. They wanted to get the boot. Reasonable people would have contacted me privately. Children want to kick and stomp their fit and puff out their lower lip.
I suggest some folks grow up.

Since the first spasm of banning the ape room has become pretty meh.
I know that you feel entitled enough that all you have to do is send some an email and they will come running back, but you may not be on the best course here.

Reasonable people would have contacted him privately??? I sent him a message last January when I had issues with the board and received nothing. My message was modeled as a complaint letter you would send the any other business. Mr. Light never contacted me. I made sure to cancel my premium membership. Never heard from him after that either.
His silence during the PhogAidz blitz was deafening.

Basically, Tom has his ideas about what is appropriate and not appropriate for his kid to see on the Phog and he deletes everything he feels is over the line. Tom has never been much for listening or being willing to work with people or accept other people's opinions. It's a shame because there is content on there that I really enjoy but I'm not going to post on a site owned by, well, a Nazi.

My analogy:
I used to go to a sports bar to watch football games on Sundays (Fox & Hound, 103rd & Metcalf). Even though it wasn't up to modern standards, it was fun and full of people there to watch the games, follow their fantasy football players, drink beer and have fun. There are certainly many newer sports bars around with a wider array of HD TVs, but we enjoyed going there to spend our Sunday afternoons, mainly because we just didn't have the energy to look around for something better. It was an old habit.
This season we go back there, the place is packed, 6-8 games are on the various old TVs, but they're playing music in the room instead of the audio for the Chiefs game. We naturally assumed that they just hadn't switched on the audio to the game at noon. When the little pigmy manager lady walked by, we suggested to her that she'd neglected to turn off the music and turn the game on. She got EXTREMELY argumentative, and said that they cater to families as well, and she'd gotten complaints about the loud football games. We all chuckled at the same time, and as politely as we could, said something to the effect: "Maam, it's a sports bar, it's Sunday noon, and there's no families in here ... look around the room .... just people here to watch the football games. That makes no sense." She wouldn't budge, so we did.
We now go to Buffalo Wild Wings where they cater to their Sunday afternoon crowd ... have 46 HD TVs, and if you want to watch a certain game, they're more than happy to change one of the TVs near where you're sitting to accommodate you, their customer. It's what they are .. a Sports Bar, not a family restaurant.
I like phognet (so shoot me), but the auto-ban for some of this stuff is just silly. I don't get it.

Tom's response to Naismith:
Here are the Fox Terms of Service.
With regard to the events of yesterday, a reminder. If you post personal information of another user and I discover it, I may remove it. If the user has previously surrendered this information to others (the link between his personal info and his board moniker), it's possible the info may be allowed to remain. For example, a Phog user recently had his picture posted on this forum. It had been previously offered up by this user to other Phog users. Rather than taking any action unilaterally, I checked with the user and he indicated that it was OK for it to remain...and thus I didn't remove it or take action against the user that posted it. I cannot guarantee that we'll do the research on each instance, or that we will even see the posts in question in the first place. If I do run into personal info or pics on the board while I'm checking in, I try and take a look at the story behind it. But, no guarantees that it will happen each time.
However, when personal info is posted about a Phog user, and said user doesn't want the info posted, when discovered, I will remove the personal info. Again, no guarantees that we'll even see it, and no guarantees we'll remove it. Yesterday, however, the user that posted personal info about another user knew better. All of you that have been around for a while know better. Just don't do it. Judgement calls as to whether or not it really-looks-like-someone-else and other issues re: this stupid game are to be made by me or the mods.
Regarding the foot-stomping-whining and crying yesterday. The Fox TOS prohibit the posting of offensive material. The definition of 'offensive' is not absolute, and will vary depending on the moderator's personal interpretation of what's offensive. Just the way it is. We have tried to select reasonable moderators, recognizing the audience here and that in some way, like it or not, this board to a certain extent represents KU and fans of the University of Kansas. The Phog.net team has no intent on letting the board turn into some free for all bastion of free speech on which (even more) embarrassing stuff can be posted.
My own personal Offensive-O-Meter is calibrated in accordance with 9 p.m. network TV broadcast guidelines, more or less. However, if a mod makes a call somewhat outside those bounds (but not TOO far), I back them in their call.
If you don't agree with a call, drop me a note. If it's a reasonable attempt at adult discourse, I'll respond. If, OTOH, you act like a baby and begin reposting the removed material or otherwise spam the board or insult me via a PM, you won't get a reply and I'll likely remove you from the community. I don't know about you, but I have things in my life I'd rather spend my emotional CPU cycles on other than bitching about a post that got removed. But, your mileage may vary.
And, Dr. J, your post got me to thinking...I'll put together a FAQ, or something, to let new users what the general guidelines are for this community in its efforts to abide with the FOX TOS. Good suggestion.

JFC, Tom. You suck at running websites.
If he actually did this with everyone, I would have a better opinion. But, he has been ignoring the customer for too long and I think he's starting to get nervous about traffic through the site. The dedicated people (a small percentage of the membership) drive the traffic. If you drive this small group away, your numbers go away. Lurkers want to read interesting stuff, not listen to crickets. Those people will then go away. Tom has failed to realize this and still lives in 2000 when the Phog was created.

Why can I post links to threads on shaggybevo or emaw sites, but I can't post a link to an equally interesting thread on WtW site?
There are reasonable, non-offensive uses for the word "bitch". It's the term for a female dog, for example. The s-word, not so much.
With regard to the second question, ask your foot-stomping, hold their breath buddies that were making their way around here spamming this site, yesterday. Up until then, it was allowed. Sorry. Again, if I don't like the burgers at Wendy's, I don't go in and try and put up posters for McDonald's inside the other restaurant. But, again, I'm an adult.
