Depends on what you are looking for.

If you like good beer you need to go by the Keg and Barrel. They have a huge selection (considering MS has a stupid 5% law), good food too.

Bar food - The endzone is good, I love the cheesesteak.
Mugshots has been awarded the best burger in MS several years.
Again the Keg and Barrel. The BLT on wheatberry with fried green tomatoes is devine!!
If you want something a little nicer. Robert St. John is a famous chef...been on Food network, travel channel etc. He has two restaurants, and a bar all in the same building. The purple parrot is his upscale restaurant, while the Crescent city is a little more modest. Check him out http://robertstjohn.com/.

Oh I almost forgot, Leatha's BBQ is very famous. ESPN always brags about it every time they are in H-Burg. I've never heard anyone who didn't love it. It's very unique. It's pretty much one big table in an old beat up shack, and "Leatha" is always working in a moo moo (sp?).

what is the definition of southern BBQ? We're all from KC, so we know KC BBQ and most of us are snobs about it and will get in fights about which BBQ is the best in KC, let alone other places.

Our BBQ is sweet. I think it usually has a lot of brown sugar in it.

On second though, since you guys are into that Kansas style BBQ, Leatha's may be a little too southern for you. Devine Swine may be a better option. It is just a small place in a gas station, but it's pretty good. If you want them to cater your tailgate they will also deliver it to your tent, which is pretty sweet.

I wish I would have tried some while I was up that way for the CWS, but I was broke and trying to stay cheap. I'm guessing KC masterpiece is nothing like the local BBQ?? Cause it's not too popular around here. Until I posted it I forgot how much BBQ varies. I guess we are more inline with the Memphis style here.

Arthur Bryants, Gates, Ok Joes, and Jack Stack rule the BBQ world up here. Even travel channel/Food network are smart enough to go to those places over KC masterpiece.

I thought so. I figured KC Masterpiece was too big to be very good. Kind of like Bud/Miller/Coors to true beer lovers it's complete crap.

If the original location isn't/wasn't a shithole, then it probably wasn't good bbq. That's how it always seems to work out.
